Maintain the asset register

Updated on 3 min Open in Cenedril

Goal Add an asset to the inventory, give it details (criticality, business owner, protection needs) and keep the register up to date with filters, sorting and search.

In Cenedril you maintain your asset inventory under Documentation → Assets. Use Add New Asset to create an asset by choosing its category, class and type and then entering the details, or use Add Asset from Preset to take over a pre-configured tool or vendor. The created asset appears in the table straight away, which you keep current with filters, sorting and search.

Add an asset

Open Asset Management

In the sidebar open Documentation and select Assets. The Asset Management page shows the two buttons Add New Asset and Add Asset from Preset at the top, with the filter and sort bar and the table of all captured assets below.

Asset Management with the “Add New Asset” and “Add Asset from Preset” buttons and the asset table.

Start a new asset

Click Add New Asset. A dialog opens that guides you through classifying the asset in sections: first the Asset Category, then the Asset Class, then the asset type.

Choose category, class and type

Select the matching Asset Category, Asset Class and type one after another. After each choice Cenedril expands the next section and shows only the entries that fit. If none of the offered options match, every level provides an entry for a custom classification.

The dialog leads from the asset category through the asset class to the asset type.

Enter the details

In the Asset Details section enter the Asset Name. Together with the type this is the only required field. Add Description, Location, Criticality, Business Owner and Technical Custodian as needed. For assets in the Information category you capture the protection needs through Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability instead of criticality.

Save the asset

Click Save Asset. Cenedril creates the asset, closes the dialog and refreshes the table. The new asset appears in the list with its name, type, class, category and status.

Add an asset from a preset

Open the preset picker

In Asset Management click Add Asset from Preset. The dialog shows pre-configured entries under Tools & Platforms and Vendors, which you can narrow with the search field.

Pick a preset

Click the entry you want. Cenedril creates the asset with the stored master data and adds it to the table. If no preset fits, switch to free creation via Create custom assets instead.

Maintain and search the register

Above the table you filter and search the register to keep an overview:

  • Filter By narrows the list through the All Categories, All Classes and All Types fields. The selection builds up: a chosen category restricts the available classes.
  • The active-only toggle hides inactive assets.
  • Under Sort By you order the table with the Name, Class and Category buttons; clicking again reverses the order.
  • The search field filters the table by asset name.

Edit an asset

Click a row in the table. The asset’s detail view opens, where you can view, edit and save all of its information. After you save, the table refreshes automatically.

Result: the asset sits in the inventory with complete master data, is findable through filters, sorting and search, and forms the basis for linking it to risks, processes and suppliers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between “Add New Asset” and “Add Asset from Preset”?

“Add New Asset” walks you through category, class and type so you can create any asset. “Add Asset from Preset” offers pre-configured tools and vendors: you pick an entry and Cenedril creates the asset with the matching master data, and for tools it also creates the link to the corresponding vendor.

Which fields are required when creating an asset?

An asset type and an asset name are required. The remaining fields such as description, location, criticality, business owner and technical custodian are optional and can be added at any time later.

How do I change an asset that already exists?

Click the relevant row in the table. The asset's detail view opens, where you can edit the information and save it.

Why do some assets show protection needs with confidentiality, integrity and availability?

For assets in the Information category, Cenedril captures the protection needs by confidentiality, integrity and availability. For other categories the Criticality field appears instead.

How do I find a specific asset in a long register?

Use the search above the table header, or narrow the register with the filters by category, class and type. The active-only toggle hides inactive assets, and the buttons under “Sort By” order the table by name, class or category.
