MIP (Microsoft Information Protection)

Updated on 1 min

MIP (Microsoft Information Protection) is a set of tools within Microsoft 365 for classifying, labeling, and protecting documents, emails, and other content by sensitivity level. Labels such as “Confidential” or “Highly Confidential” are written directly into the document’s metadata and can trigger protection actions like encryption or forwarding restrictions. MIP also supports automatic classification based on content patterns (e.g., credit card numbers). For your ISMS under ISO 27001 Annex A.5.12 and A.5.13, MIP provides a technical implementation of information classification and labeling requirements.
