TEMPEST

Updated on 1 min

TEMPEST refers to a set of standards and countermeasures designed to prevent eavesdropping through unintentional electromagnetic emanations from IT equipment. Monitors, keyboards, and cables emit measurable signals from which data can potentially be reconstructed. TEMPEST-certified devices are shielded to minimize these emissions. The concept originates from the military domain and is applied in civilian high-security environments. For most organizations, TEMPEST protection is excessive, but it can become relevant when handling highly sensitive information.
