MTPD (Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption)

Updated on 1 min

MTPD (Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption) defines the maximum time a business process can remain unavailable before the resulting damage becomes unacceptable for the organization. You determine the MTPD during the Business Impact Analysis. Your RTO (Recovery Time Objective) must always be shorter than the MTPD to ensure timely recovery. For example, if your payment processing system has an MTPD of 8 hours, your RTO should be well below that to allow buffer time for unforeseen complications. The MTPD helps you prioritize investments in redundancy and contingency planning.
