UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)

Updated on 1 min

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global time standard on which all time zones are based. In information security, UTC plays a key role in logging: when all systems write logs in UTC, events can be correlated seamlessly across locations and time zones. An ISMS should require servers and network devices to synchronize to a common UTC source via NTP. During forensic analysis, a consistent time base saves significant effort in reconstructing event timelines.
